Hello all, this is Cheyenne Sukalski, the one woman show behind Wild Expanse.
Art has always been a cornerstone of my life, but no medium felt tangible enough until I found metalsmithing. I had always wanted to create something visceral that can be carried around with you, something that would be an expression of the wearers inward self to the outside world.
I love the intimate relationship between jewelry and its wearer, how a well matched piece of jewelry can become an extension of one’s self. My favorite jewelry has always felt like a long lost piece of myself settling into place. I have the same feeling when I am in the mountains and desert, watching the light filter over the hills and valleys. I feel something click into place, become part of me and at the same time, some part of me is left with that moment and place. I hope to create jewelry that people can connect with in this same way, and that will become an expression of their own inward life.
Much of my inspiration comes from growing up in New Mexico; learning how to appreciate how the light changes and defines the landscape; the subtle and sometimes overwhelming beauty and ruggedness of the natural world. For the last seven years I have lived and worked in Yosemite National Park where my love affair with the mountains and the high desert has only become more pronounced. I hope to give people a little slice of this world in my designs. Thank you all for your support, it means everything to me.
